Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October, 1964 is a prominent American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in the United American. A member of the Democratic Party, she has been attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and also as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for health care, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She was praised nationally for her provocative questions of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of assault on a woman.
